Scholarships:  In an effort to support and encourage the study of ecology, horticulture, or other related environmental fields, the Sayville Garden Club annually awards two $1,000 scholarships  to seniors from Sayville and Bayport-Blue Point high schools who intend to   study in these areas.  Applications can be obtained from the guidance offices of these high schools.

Garden Therapy for Nursing Home Residents:  Our members volunteer to create projects for nursing home residents.    Typically, the projects are related to crafts, music, or horticulture.  Our volunteers assist the residents and help them enjoy these creative sessions.

Keep Islip Clean:  KIC was founded in 1989 and is affiliated with the national organization Keep America Beautiful.  Sayville Garden Club has adopted a length of Montauk Highway and our volunteers pick up litter from this area throughout the year.

Participation in Community Holiday Events:  The Sayville Garden Club decorates a room for the Bayport Heritage Association’s Christmas at Meadowcroft House Tour, and the Bayard Cutting Arboretum Christmas House Tour.  In addition, we create floral decorations for the Sayville Historical Society Holiday House Tour.  These festive events are lovely ways to celebrate the holidays, and help to provide funds to the sponsoring organizations that are so important to the community.

Also during the holiday season, the Sayville and Bayport-Blue Point libraries are recipients of cheerful baskets for their reception desks, filled with evergreens and decorations created by our volunteers.

Garden Awards:  During the growing season, the Sayville Garden Club appreciates and encourages local area beautification by presenting monthly awards to homeowners and business owners who have worked to create exceptional gardens.  We then publicize the garden awards in local news outlets to highlight these creative efforts.  If you would like to recommend a garden for us to consider, please email us at SayvilleGardenClub@gmail.com.

Other Community Projects:

The Sayville Garden Club participates in local community projects through financial donations, such as Sayville Library landscaping and the Brook Street Audubon Society.

In order to assist local businesses that were required to close during the Covid 19 shutdown, the Sayville Garden Club purchased gift certificates from twenty of those businesses.   The gift certificates were then given to local first responders and community volunteers to thank them for their service.  

We also support State and national organizations that promote conservation and garden education.
